#favouritemodel No. 21 – House of change – Foresight

Not only because the roof in the image of the House of Change has never been used, but based on our experience in accompanying many transformation processes, we have deliberately emphasized the space of foresight in the Movendo House of Change.

This room is not integrated into the sequence of the classic emotional journey through the House of Change, but is accessible from every other room and therefore from every emotion.

The idea and experience behind this is that foresight and consideration can serve as a success factor in the processing of change emotions. That is why it is important for us to position the relevance transparently. As if from a helicopter perspective, the space of foresight allows us to consciously look at the change, our own emotions and the emotions of others from a new perspective at any given time.

The following questions arise in the room of foresight:

  • What have we learned so far about our emotion processing strategy? What experiences help us? What works particularly well? Which experiences and stories are particularly useful? What tends not to help? Here, we can learn from looking back on previous experiences of change. Successful interventions per phase can be repeated and thus specifically increase their effectiveness. At the same time, it is important to note that the experience of change is not linear and therefore experiences from the past cannot necessarily be transferred to the future.
  • What’s next for us? Which next phases, emotions and needs should we prepare for now in order to continue to lead our transformation effectively? The space of foresight is particularly suitable for regularly keeping an eye out during the course of a change process in order to plan and prepare the next steps, events and interventions well. The highly emotional nature of change in particular makes it necessary to make the space of foresight an integral part of the emotional journey so that the next step can be decided with a little distance.
  • What else do we need? Given the high emotionality, not all well-planned interventions are effective and therefore the space of foresight can also be visited spontaneously in order to prevent emerging intervention patterns. In living and social systems, the principle applies that if your strategy does not work, then do something different. Accordingly, the Room of Foresight is equipped with precisely this question – what can we do differently in order to be successful?

If change is a constant in our lives, then the space of foresight also helps us to look ahead to the next changes and continuously keep an eye out for the topics, innovations and changes that are on the horizon. This gives the space of foresight a – literally – superordinate role in processing and accompanying emotions in change processes.

How does my #favoritemodel help you?

The space of foresight can be a place of refuge where emotions can boil down a little and at the same time open up the space to prepare for the next interventions. This is where:

  • Reflect on what we have learned so far about our own change competence – what helps us, what doesn’t help us?
  • Observes which challenges need to be considered next
  • Selected which interventions to try next to help with emotion processing
  • Evaluates which patterns are recognizable in order to interrupt dysfunctional intervention and processing patterns and strengthen functional patterns

This is why a visit to the room of foresight must not only be regularly planned, but also carried out – physically, it is advisable to use a fixed meeting room for precisely this change of perspective in order to also experience an external change.
